EMMITSBURG News-Journal

ENGLISH EDITOR, CREATIVE & COMMENTARY WRITER, AND MARKETING & ADVERTISING MANAGER

I was a writer for a local, hometown newspaper; The Emmitsburg New Journal. For 5 years, I spent time crafting fictional narratives that helped bring to light my creativity as well as important topics that we can all connect to. I find writing to be my first love, and am deeply connected to my own writing process. I also acted as the English Editor for 3 of those 5 years working with journalists and writers of all ages helping them find their own voice and become better storytellers. Through my journey at the paper, one of my articles was featured on the Pay it Forward Foundation website about promoting kindness wherever we travel, especially in our everyday.

I also worked with the owner of the paper to understand and improve the business marketing strategy. I was responsible for the local business advertisements, traveling around to meet with the business owners face-to-face and understanding their needs. At times, we would mock-up their advertisement design in-person. As part of this process, I was also in charge of the billing that came with different types of ad spots and keeping track of the payment invoices.

CREATIVE WRITING & FUNDRAISE/CAMPAIGN STORYTELLING

I believe that great writing takes practice, and I am always happy to take time to help others with their writing needs. Through paid and pro-bono opportunities, I have delivered a variety of writing. My recent paid opportunity combined my love of writing with purpose, writing a piece for a nonprofit foundation called Paint the Globe Foundation. As a writer and a designer, I was happy to combine skills for a meaningful purpose: a foundation that works directly with the ‘Leaders of the Future’ along with the students from the community to conduct art workshops in places such as Tanzania, Brazil, Ghana, Cuba, and Kenya. Ultimately, their mission is to utilize shared resources to drive art literacy and strengthen human potential in underprivileged communities around the world. I was really excited when I was asked to be a part of the campaign and could write their article because of my passion for art and writing literacy and what it brings to a community. My article was featured on the Paint the Globe Foundation Leaders of Tomorrow Campaign and in The Culture Supplier, an online cultural magazine.

Because I believe so strongly in Paint the Globe Foundation's mission, I encourage everyone to check out their upcoming campaigns on their website for how they can potentially show support.
